Proctoring...
Training:
One
important step for Urologists and/or Radiation
Oncologists who want to begin a Prostate Brachytherapy
program is to take a high-quality accredited
course.
The training course at H.Lee
Moffit Cancer Center was founded
by two of the key members of PSA, Inc.
They have been have trained nearly
500 physicians from four continents. The training
course at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center
strongly emphasizes the concept of Urologists,
Radiation Oncologists, and a Medical Physicist
working together as a team.
This course has a strong didactic program,
teaching all aspects associated with prostate
brachytherapy.
This includes the rationale for the
procedure, review of the available clinical
data, overview of TRUS interpretation of prostate
anatomy, physics overview, and thorough review
of the technical details involved with an
implant.
In addition, there is an interactive
"hands-on" dry lab where course
participants gain experience using ultrasound
imaging of a prostate phantom, with practice
needle insertion of the prostate phantom with
ultrasound guidance.
Finally, participants observe actual
cases intraoperatively as well as review teaching
videos of cases with one of the course faculty.
Introperative
Proctorship Training:
The
founders of PSA, Inc. understand the importance
of on-site proctorship support for individuals
who are just starting their Prostate Brachytherapy
program.
There are numerous details that must
be properly handled in the operating room
when performing Prostate Brachytherapy if
one is to assure that the procedure is properly
performed and each patient is offered the
best possible clinical outcome.
Like any highly technical medical procedure,
there is a "learning curve" that
individual physicians must overcome.
Without proper training, proctorship,
and feedback on their performance, it may
take an individual 50 or more cases to achieve
a level of expertise that results in consistently
performing good implants.
However, it has been clearly demonstrated
that with proper training, proctorship, and
ongoing mentoring, physicians can practically
eliminate the "learning curve" and
offer their patients the best quality care
right from the start.
PSA, Inc. offers intraoperative proctorship
training for your first five cases. In addition,
as a special bonus for signing up with PSA,
Inc., you are offered free preplanning and
postimplant dosimetric analysis for your first
five cases. Since the procedure involves
so many technical clinical details, it is
strongly recommended that you be proctored
on two separate occasions.
For medicolegal reasons, the proctors
will not physically assist you with your cases,
but rather will be there with you to coach
you through your first five cases.
During
the first visit, the proctor will assist you
with your first two cases.
You will then receive postimplant dosimetric
feedback with recommendations on how to improve
upon your technique.
It is then recommended that you perform
three prostate implants during your second
visit by the proctor in order to solidify
the concepts and be certain that you really
understand the procedure.
For a reasonable fee, you may decide
to continue the preplanning and/or postimplant
dosimetric analysis made available to you
by PSA, Inc.
