Liposuction

Some men and women are finding that a healthy low fat diet and an active fitness program are not enough to get rid of localized fat deposits (saddle bags, love handles, etc). Liposuction can remove this fat effectively, safely, and permanently. Ounces of fat in the neck to quarts in the thighs or abdomen can be evacuated.

There are two kinds of liposuction: traditional or tumescent and UAL (Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction). Both procedures utilize vacuum and specialized metal tubes (cannulas) that remove the fat.

UAL makes use of ultrasonic energy to break apart the fat cells which are then removed by suction. The cannula is inserted into the area through half an inch incisions and the fat is suctioned out. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia or I.V. sedation. The areas that are to be addressed are infiltrated with a dilute amount of anesthetic and epinephrine which numbs the area and constricts the blood vessels to markedly decrease the bleeding and post operative bruising.

Post operative discomfort is surprisingly minimal and the patient needs to wear a compressive garment for about a month. Most of the improvements are seen in the first month however the final result can take up to four months.
